I CAN NO LONGER PRETEND ALL’S WELL WITH NIGERIA - IBB

Ex Military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida  (retd).
It doesn’t seem that the criticism of Nigeria’s ex military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB (retd), of the APC government and President Muhammadu Buhari would abate soon if the latest stance taken by the retired gap-toothed General is anything to go by.

In a series of tweets within the last few hours, IBB, as he’s popularly known, has continued to attack the APC Government, maintaining that he was not satisfied with its performance so far. He reiterated his earlier statement, which is now causing controversy in the Nigerian media space, in which he asked the President to forget seeking re-election and never let his personal ambition override Nigeria’s interest.

“It’s time he pave(sic) way for new generation leaders to assume the mantle of leadership of the county. I do not intend to deny President Buhari his inalienable right to vote and be voted for, but there comes a time in the life of a nation, when personal ambition should not override national interest. We need new leadership to contend with the dynamics of a 21st century Nigeria,” Babangida said.

Taking a swipe at the ruling party, he noted that he couldn’t understand while APC has failed to actualize the change mantra it campaigned with, that got it victory at the 2015 presidential polls.

“I had thought they would device new methods, provoke new initiatives and proffer new ways to addressing some of our developmental problems. By now, we should have passed this developmental stage, but unfortunately they wasted our time,” he lamented.

Continuing he said, “As patriots, we cannot pretend we don’t know what Nigerians are going through because we are statesmen. As an Elder, I will like to quote my boss, Obasanjo, who said, 'I will die for my country Nigeria, but not for my party and ethnicity'.

Over the weekend, the ex military President was alleged to have released a statement through his Media Spokesman, Prince Kassim Afegbua, in which he called the President analogue leader. He has since denied the statement, stressing that his original statement was doctored by his Media Spokesman.
