Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris. |
The Inspector-General of
Police, Ibrahim Idris on Tuesday, appeared at the Presidency for questioning over
why he flouted the President’s order to him on 9th January 2019 to relocate
to Benue following the January 1 killings in the state.
IGP Ibrahim Idris was
received by President Muhammadu Buhari in a private audience. However, no
details of the meeting were disclosed as Idris left Aso Rock about half an hour
later visibly troubled.
All efforts to get an
official statement from him by newsmen who laid siege to the Villa, proved
abortive as he shunned pressmen.

Recall that Gov Samuel
Ortom of Benue State had told President Buhari that the Inspector-General failed
to carry out an order given to him to relocate to Benue to personally oversee
security in the state and forestall further security breaches.
In response, the President
has admitted that he never knew that the IGP flouted the order but declined
making any statement on what he intended to do about it.
Presidency sources hinted
that the President felt very embarrassed and may deal decisively with the IGP
any moment from now.
“Don’t be surprised to hear
that the IGP has been sacked as the President is very crossed over Mr. Idris’s
official misdemeanor. He may have decided to come hard on the IGP to send the
right signal to all,” the source disclosed.
